Bio

Dr. Matthew Butterfield is a performer, reedmaker, and teacher based in Rhode Island. He is the Adjunct Professor of Oboe at Rhode Island College and Oboe Instructor at The Joy of Music Program in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Matthew frequently performs with the Narragansett Bay Symphony Community Orchestra, The American Band, the Worcester Winds, and the Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra. He was a member of the Kansas City Chamber Orchestra, and has been a member of The Pennsylvania Centre Orchestra, The American Wind Symphony Orchestra, and The Atlantic Coast Opera Festival Orchestra. Matthew has also played in the Kansas City Symphony Orchestra, the Saint Joseph Symphony Orchestra, the Springfield Symphony Orchestra in Missouri, and the Nashua Chamber Orchestra. 

Engagements abroad include performances as a guest musician with the Orchestra Sinfonica del Conservatorio and the Milano Musica festival, Milan, Italy.

Matthew holds degrees in Music Education and Music Performance from Penn State University, The University of Wisconsin-Madison, and The University of Kansas.
