Bio

Minnesota native, Colton Ray Cox, is currently a music teacher and freelance oboist in the New England area. His studies began at the University of Minnesota, followed by a Master of Music degree earned at the University of Georgia (Southern Winds Quintet Fellow), and lastly, his Doctorate of Musical Arts degree at Stony Brook University under a full tuition scholarship. His primary teachers were Pedro Diaz, John Snow, Reid Messich, and James Austin Smith. 

Dr. Cox has subbed and performed with many notable groups including the  Minnesota Orchestra, Atlanta Ballet, Charleston Symphony, Trans Siberian Orchestra, and Joffrey Ballet.  His favorite career highlights even include performing with Idina Mendel and Ben Folds. 

Dr. Cox is also an avid athlete where he believes all musicians should train and workout to maintain a healthy lifestyle which carries over into their musical life. He also loves guiding his students to learn more about finances when pursuing their dreams, and feels lucky to teach courses in music and careers at Blackstone Valley Tech High. 

When not performing, Dr. Cox loves coaching track and field, discovering all the nooks and crannies of New England, and, most of all, spending time with his husband and dogs.
